Biology is a popular choice at 'AS' and 'A2' levels with there usually being two sets in Years 12 and 13. The courses are based on the AQA Specifications and these, together with past papers and markschemes, are available on the AQA website.
Many students go on to use their knowledge of Biology in careers in Medicine, Optometry, Pharmacy and Dentistry.
There are three modules:
AS Biology is assessed by means of three module tests. Modules 1 is examined for the first time in January, and Modules 2 and 3 are sat during May/June of Year 12. 15% of the total mark is awarded internally on a student's ability to plan and implement an investigation, and analyse and evaluate the results obtained.

A2 Biology is assessed by means of three examinations, including a synoptic unit, which are sat during May/June of Year 13. 12.5% of the total mark for (AS + A2) is based on internally assessed practical work. The practical work takes place on the residential field trip.
